Chinese Premier Meets Thai PM
Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao said on Saturday he regretted that the summits related to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) have been postponed, but he understood the Thai government's decision.

As Thailand's friendly neighbor, China hopes Thailand's domestic situation will return to normal at an early date, Wen said while talking briefly with Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva, who went to see Wen off at the airport.

China attaches great importance to the ASEAN related summits, and has worked together with relative parties to make full preparations for the summits, Wen said.

China hopes the summits can become a platform to strengthen confidence, tackle the global financial crisis with concerted efforts, and push ahead with the cooperation in East Asia, he said.

The Chinese side will continue to push forward the development of the good-neighborly friendly cooperation between China and Thailand, as well as that between China and ASEAN, Wen emphasized.

Abhisit apologized for the postponement of the ASEAN related summits, and voiced heartfelt thanks for China's patience, sincerity and understanding.

Thailand will continue to make positive contributions to facilitating the cooperation between ASEAN and China, he said.

Thailand treasures the traditional friendship with China, and is determined to commit to the friendly cooperation, Abhisit said.

China's economy is developing with a good momentum, which gives hope not only to Thailand but also to the whole region, he said.

China's sound economic development is critical for Thailand and the region to tide over the financial turmoil and realize economic recovery, he added.

Wen Jiabao returned to Beijing on Saturday night.
