An exhibition called "Tibet: Treasures from the Roof of the World" opened on July 11, 2009, in Sapporo, Japan at the Hokkaido Museum of Modern Art. The exhibit displays 123 pieces of cultural relics, including 36 state-level items, from the Tibet Autonomous Region Museum and the Potala Palace through August 23.
Most items on display are figures of Buddha from temples and museums in Tibet. One of the major cultural exchange events between China and Japan in recent years, the exhibition will travel to Tokyo, Osaka and Sendai after August 23.
